OWOSSO — The city of Owosso has officially welcomed its newest downtown addition. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Monday at Rustic Owl Furnishings, 120 N. Washington St., where community members, Shiawassee Chamber of Commerce representatives and city officials gathered to welcome store owner Lindsay Bowman. “This has been the final dream that I’ve had is to open a storefront, so it’s coming to life and I’m very excited for the next chapter,” Bowman said. Bowman has been refinishing antique furniture since 2017. In 2018, she officially launched her business, operating exclusively online and offering painting, staining and furniture-stripping services. As her business took off and her desire for a more flexible schedule grew, Bowman decided to shift her focus to furniture full time so she could spend more time with her children. After saving up a year’s salary, she quit her job working in a hospital pharmacy in 2020 — and never looked back. Bowman purchased the building, which was formerly Blu Ashe, and got the keys April 28. She spent over a month remodeling the interior of the building. In addition to her work, Bowman plans to share the space with local and Michigan vendors. For the grand opening, set for Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. shoppers will find a few pieces from the Clarkston based business Davina Design Co. Rustic Owl Furnishings will also offer home décor and children’s items, including books, stuffed animals and dolls. Bowman said her hours are subject to change depending on how business goes in the first few weeks. For now, Rustic Owl Furnishings will be closed Monday and Tuesday. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
